In this article, I am going to talk about the latest NMC update regarding the removal of the list of foreign medical institutes for MBBS or equivalent courses. Earlier Medical Council of India (MCI) use to issue a list for every country’s approved and recognized foreign medical universities which could make the Indian student eligible to sit for the screening test.
But currently, NMC has issued a new update, wherein they are not endorsing any list of foreign medical Institutes and medical University for MBBS or equivalent courses. So in simple words, it means that now it doesn’t matter if a University is or was MCI approved or not, but currently, if the university is recognized in its own country, then the Indian students are allowed to pursue MBBS from that University after meeting the basic eligibility criteria and NEET qualification, they are eligible for the screening test in India.
The student or candidate is eligible to get into that foreign Medical University by meeting the eligibility criteria as he or she can take admission in that University and be eligible to sit for the NMC screening test which is now NEXT exam. And here qualifying the NEET exam is still mandatory, you have qualify the NEET exam and you are eligible to get admission in that Foreign Medical University for MBBS course, then returning back to India by completing your degree, you will be eligible to sit for the NEXT exam
So here is what NMC has said regarding this update you can read it below.
“It may be noted that the erstwhile Medical Council of India had provided a list of foreign Medical Institutions/Universities for MBBS or equivalent course based upon the information received from the Indian Embassy/High Commission of India concerned. However, it is to state that the 2018 notification to the Screening Test Regulations clearly states that all Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizen of India who have obtained a primary medical qualification from any Medical Institution outside India have to qualify the prescribed Screening test for purposes of obtaining registration in India in addition to fulfilling other eligibility criteria stated in the regulations. It is to clarify that the National Medical Commission does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course. The public at large is advised that before taking admission in MBBS or its equivalent course in a university outside India, confirmation of the fee structure, details of the course, etc. should be directly obtained from the University/Institution concerned.
